AFS 18-105mm ED VR |
Today is just like my other Wednesday(s).In a nutshell, wasted. Except for one thing my Nikon AFS 18-105mm just arrived early this morning. It is a used unit. I trade in my 18-55m for this lense coz I figured 55mm is just isn't enough reach. I did consider 55-200mm but my recent experience traveling with DSLR taught me 1 important thing: TRAVEL LIGHT AND CARRY MINIMUM GEAR AS POSSIBLE! Okay, thats two but who's counting.
So I think 18-105mm VR is a reasonable upgrade. Given my budget is very limited. It would be nice to have the Tamron 18-270mm but thats a 200 quid more and considerably heavier. I wonder what my frequent zoom range will be. Will I miss the extra 165mm? We'll see.
First impression of the 18-105mm is very good. I totally forgot that it is a 67mm diameter so when I opened the box I was a bit shocked. Compare to the 18-55mm the lens is significantly bigger and heavier. This is important factor because I am beginning to doubt that the plastic mount will last for a long time. I bought a used unit which I think is in an excellent condition. Kudos to MPB Photograhic for their low price and speedy delivery.
I haven't put enough time on this unit to give ia proper layman review. Overall optics i think it performs on par with 18-55mm. One gripe tho, forget about wide open 18mm shot if you must use the built in flash. you'll get a dark vignetting at the bottom pic. No issue using the SB-600.
