35mm lens VS Samsung WB500

35mm Nikon

Samsung WB500

I bought a 35mm Nikon lens recently. The Samsung which a had for almost a year is 5 pound cheaper than this lens. What??.   35mm Nikon AF-S received mostly positive vibes in a lot of reviews. It was praised mainly on how well it is on low light condition and for being sharper than zoom lens. Also worth mentioning, the 35mm is a fast lens. Not sure what it means tho. Does it allow faster auto focus? I can't tell the difference. Does it allow faster shutter speed in low light? Yes.  A lot of people was saying that a prime lens is a must have in your setup. Being a complete idiot I went ahead and get myself one of this lens. Well, this 35mm lens is effectively 50mm on a DX body. That explains why i was struggling to get the arch fully in frame. Would have fallen into the river behind me had i stepped further back. The Samsung WB500 with its 24mm did the job wonderfully.

Should I go back to the store and get my money back? No. I still think the lens works better indoor than the kit lens. I don't use much zoom in door. But the Samsung definitely gonna stay.
